Steve's WVVX Blog

Well, I promised that I was getting back to blogging so here's a new post to chew on. In 2007, almost 3 years ago, I created a blog post where I described 103.1 WVVX in Chicago as I remembered it. I wrote about Scott Loftus and all the stations I remembered him being on. Since I wrote that blog post, it has become the most popular blog post on my blog at Wordpress.com. It currently has 88 comments that the fans of Scott Loftus and the station have left. It's been almost 3 years since I wrote that blog post and now I feel I should follow up and write some more. First, I would like to thank all of the people who have left comments. This is a personal blog of mine and I feel like it has become a destination on the internet for WVVX fans which makes me feel like I have created something special. Next, I would also like to thank Scott's family for updating the fans and also for setting the record straight about the rumor of his death, provided everyone is who they say they are. I invite Scott or his family to keep us, the fans, updated. I also invite you, the fans, to continue to share your memories of WVVX and Scott Loftus. I would also invite you to post any recordings you may have of WVVX or Scott Loftus, like CDK did, although I personally did not get a chance to listen to it. Does anyone have pictures? Post anything you have. I may consider creating a new blog or website if I get enough interest and material. I also don't know if there are any copyright issues either as I have not researched any of that yet. In conclusion, I am open to any ideas that anyone may have about what I could do for you, the fans, of WVVX and Scott Loftus. I can't wait to read your comments, so keep them coming. Also, post any recordings or anything else you may have so that all of us can enjoy the memories of the best radio station ever.

103.1 WVVX!

My friend Phil posted a piece today on radio stations and personalities. Check it out at http://nwitimes.com/blogs/potempa/?p=38. It got me thinking about back in the 1990s when I used to listen to 103.1 WVVX with Scott Loftus. I posted a comment about this on Phil's blog but I thought I would take a stroll down memory lane here on my own blog. I remember the days when 103.1 used to be a spanish station during the day but at night it changed into something else, a whole different animal. Kind of like Bruce Wayne would turn into Batman, that spanish station would crossover to pure heavy rock at I believe 7 or 8 (I honestly don't recall the exact time). You would know that the change had occurred because there was an intro that was a staple in the station's routine. The station would then continue to defy the current standards set by 103.5 who played the same songs over and over and was very close to them on the dial. DJ Scott Loftus would take requests and play whatever the hell he and the people wanted and the end result was a station with great variety and real character. On the weekends, I remember there being segments like "One Off The B Side" where they would play all the B-sides and rare tracks from certain artists. WVVX was by far the best station that ever existed in my opinion. The only thing that plagued the station if I am remembering correctly, was funding to keep it going. There were many fans but no donations. Scott Loftus in an attempt to change the competition took a job at 103.5 and thus we saw the end of a great station. Scott resurfaced later on Q101 and now I have absolutely no idea what happened to him. If anyone knows or would like to share their memorys of WVVX, please comment to this post. I am anxious to hear if anyone else loved this station like me. Well, the only thing left to say is ROCK ON CHICAGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
